clinical drama therapy
healing beyond words
why drama therapy?
Drama therapy was born out of the realisation that some life experiences and wounds are too painful to address through verbal dialogue alone. Because drama uses metaphor to express emotion, it was a natural fit for a therapeutic framework.
We often misinterpret the “arts” as a sector reserved for “creatives’, without realizing how much we have been shaped by forms of creative thinking. Movies, T.V series, theatre, books and social media all draw on some form of creativity.
Drama therapy (and other art related therapies) are designed to offer the client a way of expressing in which he/she does not only have to talk but rather just be.
Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Bianca Isaac, I hold a master’s degree in Drama Therapy and have worked in communications agencies (on corporate accounts), schools and non-profit companies. As the founder of the Human Storyboard, I create platforms in which people can connect and communicate about often controversial realities.
I run a private practice and I am a seasonal worker and supervisor for the Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling centre. I have previously engaged in contract work for two projects at the University of Witwatersrand and Lefika Studio. I have also traversed through the health-care system for 11 years to find answers to personal health challenges.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Wits offered Drama Therapy as a clinically sound, HPCSA approved degree. I was the fourth cohort in Africa to have qualified with a master’s degree in Drama Therapy. As a Drama Therapist, my primary treatment goal is to equip people to process emotions, overcome trauma and navigate challenges in a safe and healthy manner.
